A native of Massachusetts, Col. Adam J. Boyd enlisted as a 98G (now 35P), Persian Farsi linguist, in 1988; graduated from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree; and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps in 1994.
Upon completion of Military Intelligence Officers Basic Course, he was assigned as the Assistant Battalion S2 in the 3rd Battalion, 68th Armor, 4th Infantry Division (MECH), at Fort Carson, Colorado. From 1995-1998 he served as the Assistant Squadron S-2, 3d Squadron, 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, Support Platoon leader, and then Executive Officer of 66th Military Intelligence Company.
In 1999, Col. Boyd reported to the 1st Armored Division in Germany, where he served as the S2 for 1st Squadron, 1st U.S. Cavalry, Company Commander for B Company, 501st MI Battalion, and the Brigade S-2 for 2nd Brigade. In 2003, Col. Boyd deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as the S2 for 2nd BCT/1AD, and served as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of 1st Armored Division in Baghdad, Iraq.
After redeploying from OIF I in 2004, Col. Boyd reported to the 304th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and served as an instructor, and later Course Manager, for the MI Captains Career Course.
In 2006, Col. Boyd reported again to 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, this time at Fort Hood Texas, where he served as the Regimental S2 for three years, deploying to Mosul, Iraq, in support of OIF 07-09. Upon redeployment from Iraq, Col. Boyd served as the Executive Officer for Support Squadron, 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment.
In 2010, Col. Boyd returned to Germany and was assigned to the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade, where he served as an Analysis and Control Element Chief, and later as the Brigade S3.
Col. Boyd commanded the 305th Military Intelligence Battalion at Fort Huachuca, Arizona from 2013-2015, and subsequently served as the Senior Intelligence Officer for the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. He most recently served as the Director of Plans, Architecture, and Resources for the CJ2, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Col, Boyd is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, the Engineer Advanced Course, Airborne School, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
Col. Boyd’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2), and Valorous Unit Award; and he has earned the Parachutist Badge. He is also a recipient of the Military Intelligence Corps’ Knowlton Award.
Col. Boyd is married to the former Kristen Melanson of Burlington, Massachusetts, and together they have two children
